Around 500 specialists, humanitarian organizations, and international institutions from 40 countries gathered at the Second Family Conference “Stories We Tell” on October 18–19, 2019, in Istanbul, Turkey. The event was launched by the Ghras Association for Community Development in partnership with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), aiming to support families who have lost their breadwinners, guide them toward a dignified life, empower women, and strengthen their role in society. The “Stories We Tell” forum included four seminars: Story of Development: The forum explored solutions to challenges in women’s development and empowerment, especially in the context of the globalization of human rights. Story of Humanity: Thousands of women have emerged from wars alone, facing life’s hardships while striving to shoulder family responsibilities. Many have succeeded in achieving remarkable experiences. Numerous such stories were shared under this theme. Story of Quality: This session discussed the quality of life of families living in conflict zones in the Arab world who lack even the most basic necessities, particularly families led by women. Story of a Homeland: Several international initiatives launched to support refugees and those under siege were presented under this theme, highlighting their clear impact in achieving sustainable development and holistic improvement in the quality of life for these refugees.
