Not the End of the World
“Ghirass” Launches “Not the End of the World” Project
Under the patronage of the Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Judge Abdullah Ahmed, Ghirass for Society Development launched the “Not the End of the World” project, at the Lancaster Hotel – Hazmieh. The event was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Judge Abdullah Ahmed, represented by the Head of the NGOs Department in the Ministry, Abeer Abed al-Samad, the Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs represented by Ms. Nada Makki, represented by Representative Rola Al-Tabash, Dania Habri, the representative of the Mufti of Bekaa, Sheikh Khalil Al-Mays, Sheikh Diaa Al-Qattan, Director General State Security Major General Tony Saliba, represented by Colonel Ayman Omar, directors of 74 centers affiliated with the ministry, and representatives of international, local, partisan and social associations.
The meeting began with the Lebanese National Anthem, followed by the screening of an introductory film about Ghirass association.
In his remarks, Mr. Ziad Taqtaq, Executive Director of Ghirass, stated that Ghirass organized this project in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs, as it was one of Ghirass’s main objectives when it was founded to pay attention to this category of our society, namely the category of women who head their families in challenging and unforgiving economic conditions. “And despite the fact that there are no accurate statistics for this segment, it is obvious that the percentage of female breadwinners has increased as a result of the husband’s absence due to death, divorce, imprisonment or migration. As a result, these women experience a great deal of need, pressure, and follow-ups, not to mention that many of them are exposed to blackmail and exploitation.”
In the light of these facts, we collaborated with the Ministry of Social Affairs, represented by Judge Abdullah Ahmed, who expressed his enthusiasm and genuine interest in this project, identifying its most pressing requirements and integrating it with a set of Ministry-led programs in the service of women and society, in order to ensure that the project is implemented across the country, he continued. Mr. Taqtaq concluded that the presence of dozens of Ministry of Social Affairs center
directors with us today, in addition to the Director General’s representative and Ministry staff, illustrates the depth of this common belief and reflects the effective cooperation between the Ministry and Ghirass Association.
Following that, he delivered a PowerPoint presentation outlining the project’s goals and objectives.
The Ministry of Social Affairs statement was delivered by Abed al-Samad. She highlighted the significance of the family’s role in society and emphasized that the suffering of the Lebanese family as a result of the father’s emigration, the divorce, and the death of one of the parents led to a disorder in this familial entity.
Abed al-Samad also praised Ghirass’s initiative and considered it a benefit to the efforts made in this regard, “as the Ministry is currently collaborating with Ghirass on the “Not the End of the World” project, which will shed light on the suffering of female breadwinners and the impact of the husband’s absence. She also lauded Ghirass and its staff and noted their eagerness to work together for the sake of the Lebanese family.
