Ghirass for Society Development organized its fourth annual Iftar, as part of its Ramadan campaign “for the joy to be complete,” at “Le Bristol” Hotel on Tuesday 28-6-2016. The Iftar was attended by Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas, represented by the Director General of the Ministry, Mrs. Randa Bou Hamdan, the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, represented by His Eminence Sheikh Fawzi Al-Homsi, Minister of Justice, Major General Ashraf Rifi, represented by Mr. Khaled Alwan, Director General of the Internal Security Forces, Major General Ibrahim Basbous, represented by Lt. Colonel Khaled Taqsh, Director General of the Lebanese Army Intelligence, Brigadier General P.S.C. Camille Daher, represented by Lieutenant-Colonel Fouad Thebian, the general director of the General Directorate of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, represented by Colonel Adnan Shaaban, Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon, represented by Mr. Melvin, Mr. Ali Fadlallah, represented by Sheikh Zuhair Quosan, members of the Spiritual Meeting in Mount Lebanon, members Municipal and optional councils, Commissioner-General of the Muslim Scout in Lebanon Commander Ali Al-Rifai and members of the General Commission, international and local associations, economic, banking, educational and media organizations

The Iftar event started with a welcoming address by Miss Diana Al-Khalili, who welcomed the guests and described the campaign launched by Ghirass for Society Development during the month of Ramadan this year, “Good Befitting You,” which featured many activities.

Randa Bou Hamdan, the Ministry’s Director General of Social Services, delivered her speech on behalf of Minister of Social Affairs Rachid Derbas.

She highlighted women’s pioneering roles and the most significant obstacles they face, emphasizing their critical role in progressing society on social, economic, and cultural levels, thanking “Ghirass” for this invitation and wishing them success and continuity.

“Ghirass” statement was delivered by its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Sami Al-Khatib, who believed that “Ghirass,” in such harsh and dark conditions, proved their capability to find the right path to spread love throughout four years of their journey, adopting the premise of “everyone has the right to live in dignity.”

Al-Khatib emphasized the association’s contributions and assistance, which reached more than 13,000 families in various Lebanese governorates. The assistance ranged from relief aid to seasonal projects and meeting urgent needs, but the focus was on empowerment projects so that the poor no longer feel the need to ask.

He emphasized Ghirass eagerness to establish partnerships with official and civil institutions, and listed some of these partnerships, most notably with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the UNHCR, the Malaysian Embassy, the Kuwaiti Zakat House, and the Zakat Fund in Dar Al-Fatwa.

The event aslo featured the presentation of a video about Ghirass’ achievements and another about the radio program “Fill the void,” which was sponsored by “Ghirass” during the holy month of Ramadan.
